Self Injury Awareness Day

Today is an important day. Self injury and self harm is a sensitive topic for me, not because I have done things to hurt myself but because growing up I would see the closest people to me practice self harm.

Millions of people in the United States alone, have caused themselves self injury in some shape way or form. Statistically, 70% of people practice self harm in their lifetime.

It's crazy to think about.

Some individuals may burn themselves, cut themselves, hit things until they make themselves bleed, hit themselves, pulling out their hair, take pills even without wanting to actually commit suicide..

I know this is a topic that many people would want to shy away from - but it's out there. Our loved ones are hurting & sometimes you might not even know it.

There's stigma behind this topic which unfortunately causes someone to not even want to speak up.

If you are there to help someone please let them know they aren't alone - because many times they really do feel that way. You don't know everything that has gone in their lives and I'm not saying it excuses them to hurt themselves, just to shed a glimpse. Urge them to seek help.

There's many avenues you or your loved one can take to help cope.

You can text HOME to 741741 to get talk to someone at the Crisis Text Line to connect with someone and they can help manage your emotions and help you with healthy ways to cope.
